ACA Trip Leader Workshop with
Karen Knight
One of the Nations Premier Boaters
The River Connection is recognized by the American Canoe Association (ACA) as a Pro Paddlesports School. The ACA is the oldest and largest organization devoted to paddlesports and paddlesport instruction in the United States.
In addition to stardardized sea kayaking skill building courses, the ACA developed a system of workshops to provide experienced paddlers with the tools needed to share their skills with others. In addition to the traditional instructor certifications, the ACA has developed Trip Leading Skills Assessment.
The Trip Leading Assessment Workshop is offered as a 2 day course and its purpose is to teach potential trip leaders what they need to know to safely lead a trip on lakes, rivers and coastal environments in gentle conditions, with apparent wind not exceeding 10 kts, waves not exceeding 1 foot and currents to 2 kts. The emphasis of this course is trip leading, safety education and rescue, not paddling instruction. The Trip Leading Workshop is relevant for clubs, camps, scouts and other entities providing trips. This is an Assessment Course with a written Examination. Those desiring certification to teach kayak paddling should consider ACA Instructor Certification.
Candidates should be proficient in all skills on the appropriate ACA course outlines before attending the Workshop. Throughout the workshop, candidates will be instructed and evaluated on their paddling skills, leading ability, professionalism, safety/technical rescue skills and depth of knowledge.
Karen Knight will serve as the Instructor Trainer for this course offering by the River Connection. Karen is one of the Nations Premier Boaters and is internationally recognized for her paddling precision in canoeing and kayaking.
ACA Trip Leading Assessment:
Cost: $260. per person.
Dates: June 27 & 28, 2009
Participation in this course does not guarantee certification. Candidates must attend both days of the Workshop to be considered for the Trip Leading Skills Assessment. Proficiency in certain kayaking skills are a prerequisite to attendance in this Workshop unless otherwise accepted.
