Along the south shore of Saugatuck Connecticut, in the Long Island Sound are approximately 23 Islands that comprise the Norwalk Islands. Many of the Norwalk Islands are privately owned, some are part of the Stewart B. McKinney National Wildlife Refuge (Chimon and
Sheffield) and have restricted access and some are owned by the City of
Norwalk (Shea and Grassy Island) and are open to the public. |
Launch Point: Public launch at the Saugatuck River. Take Interstate 95 to
Norwalk. Launch site (cement boat ramp) is below the I-95 overpass of the
Saugatuck River. Plenty of parking is available.
Weather and water conditions will dictate a mid-tour landing point.
Learning to kayak safely, effectively and efficiently is best
done with the help of a
qualified instructor. The lead instructors for River Connection Kayak
Instructional Courses are American Canoe Association (ACA) Certified
Instructors.
Skills development courses are worth months of just
paddling around. If you are interested in learning more kayaking skills, consider one of our
Kayak Instructional Programs.
Your tuition includes use of all equipment for the duration of the kayak
tour. See our
Policy Page for additional information.
